Magnetic Hematite Educational Guide

Magnet Rocks handcrafts magnetic hematite jewelry for everyday wear. Some Magnet Rocks designs pair magnetic hematite with natural gemstones or Crystal by Swarovski®. Each piece is assembled by hand in Daytona Beach, Florida.

What Is Magnetic Hematite?

Hematite is a mineral form of iron oxide (Fe₂O₃). In its natural state it appears as a dull red or brownish-black rock. When cut and polished, it takes on a brilliant metallic shine similar to polished steel.

The name “hematite” comes from the Greek word for blood — haima — because when powdered, hematite leaves a reddish streak.

Natural hematite is only very weakly magnetic. The magnetic hematite used in Magnet Rocks jewelry is a manufactured composite material that has been permanently magnetized. The result looks and feels nearly identical to natural hematite.

Rainbow Hematite

Rainbow hematite is a variety of magnetic hematite that has been titanium-coated to produce an iridescent surface in shades of blue, purple, and green.

A Brief History of Magnetic Jewelry

The use of magnets dates back thousands of years. Naturally magnetized rocks called lodestones were noted by ancient cultures across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

Today, magnetic hematite jewelry is worn as a stylish everyday accessory.

Wearing Your Jewelry

The 3-in-1 Necklace

The 3-in-1 Necklace converts between a necklace, bracelet, and anklet using a 3-inch extension. All pieces use magnetic clasps that snap together easily.

Stacking

Hematite’s neutral gray-black tone pairs with silver, gold, and other gemstones. Multiple pieces can be worn together.

Care

Wipe with a soft cloth to maintain shine. For deeper cleaning, use a damp cloth with a small amount of mild dish soap, then dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners. Remove jewelry before showering, swimming in chlorinated water, or using a sauna, as prolonged moisture can degrade the co-polymer cord and metal clasps over time.

Storage

Store magnetic pieces separately from other jewelry and away from credit cards, key fobs, and other magnet-sensitive items. Magnetic pieces will attract ferrous objects.

Safety

Children

Keep magnetic jewelry away from young children. Small beads can be a choking hazard.

Magnet-Sensitive Items

Keep magnetic jewelry away from credit cards, key fobs, and other magnet-sensitive items.

Implanted Electronic Medical Devices

Anyone with an implanted electronic medical device should consult the device manufacturer or a qualified medical professional before wearing magnetic jewelry.

Magnetic jewelry is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any condition.
