Simple I made enough shitty choices.
I was blessed with the fact that I did many jobs between 17 and 30. Most people in that period get locked into what they will repeat for income until they retire or die. The ex-hated that fact. That is probably the number one reason at 56 I run my own business, work three days a week and live on the Beach 1400 miles away from that individual. Life sure is funny that way.
The fact of having so many employers over that time sure was a blessing in disguise. It gave a bunch of different back drops to interact with through that informative part of my life. Many times, I learned lessons by simply doing them wrong the first time. Pain was a good teacher. If it were painful enough, I would do my best not to repeat. Given the choice, I choose pleasure over pain.
Most raised in my generation were raised with this misunderstanding. If you do what you did yesterday, you will succeed. That worked through my father’s generation and ended with mine. Through my father’s generation if you work for the same company your entire life you could retire with a pension that would support you through the end of your life. That world no longer exists for us. Once the Corporations and bean counters took over the world, all resemblance to any type of security from the employers disappeared.
It did not take me long to realize that a company would spend thousands of dollars in the first year to train me and then try to get me to take a 25 cent an hour raise to stay. I simply took their thousands of dollars’ worth of training, put it out in the open market and got hired and paid for what I knew. Repeat that a half a dozen times in your 20s and see what happens in your life.
I believe individuals that take the safe way through their life have no idea what they are doing to themselves. I also believe that the only reason an individual would do that to themselves is the amount of fear carried inside of them. I was blessed with being raised with the idea that I could do anything given the time and desire to do it. Decades have now proven that is exactly true. We always succeed.
So how did I get to this place, I made enough shitty choices. Then I took the lessons from those choices and made the changes that matched my desires. Not the ex’s or employers’ desires of me. My Desires. Because the world works in a system that most do not see or understand. The outcome of decades of being true to myself is I now live my dream life on the ocean next to my daughter and grandson.
I started this Substack to present observations I have made during this journey I call life. To attempt to present my observations in a way that is uplifting yet informative. Something that could, if applied, change all aspects for the participants.
In 2023 I live on the ocean next to my daughter and her family. I designed a #1 Google ranked business I get to play in 21 hours a week. If you choose to come on this journey with me, I believe you will have thoughts you never had before. Then we change the world.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
